Outdoor garden furniture is prone to the ravages of our British weather over the winter months, from rain and hail, to snow and gales. So how should you store your garden furniture?
Preparing outdoor garden furniture for storage
Before being stored away, outdoor garden furniture, particularly wooden furniture, should be thoroughly cleaned and dried. Inspect pieces for any signs of damage or wear that should be treated immediately – this will reduce the risk of further damage from mould and damp. Removable items such as cushions should be removed and stored indoors wherever possible.
Storing garden furniture outdoors
Garden tables and chairs should be collapsed or folded down, or even stacked wherever possible to allow them to take up the least amount of space. Store in the most sheltered spot in the garden, covering well with a waterproof furniture cover or a tarpaulin. Ensure furniture legs are well protected against the damp weather, by standing on slabs.
Storing garden furniture indoors
Storing garden furniture indoors over the winter months is always the better option. But what to do if you don’t have the room in your home or garage? What options are there for keeping garden furniture safe and secure?
Garden storage ideas
At Sutton Sheds, we offer a wide choice of garden storage solutions. Whether you need a place for storage where you can also work (check out our wooden garden workshops) or a structure just for storage (choose between a wooden pent shed or apex shed), we can help!
Wooden sheds
We offer wooden pent sheds or apex sheds, with each style available with single or double doors. Double doors are particularly useful where you need to store large pieces of furniture that will not collapse or fold down. All of our sheds come in a wide choice of sizes, ranging from 7x5 up to 16x10, to provide all the storage you need. Where none of our standard sizes are quite what you need, we are able to offer a bespoke, custom-build service where we can create the shed of your dreams, to your exact specifications.
Bespoke or standard sized sheds – which do you need?
We hold no readymade stock and all our sheds are manufactured to order. Our standard sized sheds require no planning permission and are usually ready for delivery and installation within 4-6 weeks of your order. By comparison, our bespoke sheds are manufactured to your exact requirements – with your choice of cladding profile plus features not available in our standard models. Your bespoke shed will normally be delivered and installed within 6-8 weeks from ordering.
Of course, having chosen to store your outdoor furniture in a Sutton Sheds structure, it is important to know how to keep your shed secure. From tips on where to position the shed, to securing doors and windows, our article has lots of helpful advice.
